Agriculture

Agriculture in Africa is characterized by the following

  • Numerous small scale farms, which are seriously lacking in know-how
  • Virtually no professional farmers
  • Fluctuating product quality and availability
  • Weak supply chain and logistics – few large scale buyers, unorganized  small scale sellers
  • Low level of TRUST in the supply chain
  • Little appropriate mechanization or storage facilities (high level of wastage)
  • Lack of appropriate funding because most sources are still short term rather than medium or longer term which are more suitable for agriculture.

WE WANT TO CHANGE THIS WITH INNOVATIVE BREAKTHROUGH THINKING

Wicklow is committed to driving the growth of agriculture in Africa; producing more food for every unit of land and unit of investment. The company has determined that the principal problems of large scale commercial farming in Africa are inadequate availability of: experienced management ; longer term debt; appropriate storage, improved varieties; inadequate supply of agro-inputs; inappropriate farming equipment; and poor markets.
